Defensive Play Design
Tips
Here are the rules I follow for Defensive play
design:
*
Cornerbacks
Cover #1 receivers w/ No bump&run-No shade
under.
I put CBs 0 to 3 yards back behind the LOS, it seems the
closer you put them to the LOS the tighter the coverage.Place
them as close as possible to the DE or OLB to
compensate
for the Offense flipping their plays and the long
dash to
line up on receiver.
*
Safeties
Cover #2 receivers w/ No bump&run-No shade
under.
I put Safeties 3 to 6 yards back behind the LOS,
near the
field hash marks.
*
Linebackers
Cover #3 receivers w/ No
bump&run-No shade under.
I put him 2 to 5 yards back
behind the LOS, either the
MLB in a 4/3 defense or
1 of the ILBs in a 3/4 defense.
*
The above is for straight
Man 2 Man defense.
*
Until I am able to make
a decent Coaching Profile I make
sure I have all possible
receivers covered on every play
(excluding the QB). Even
Goal line defenses. And my pass
prevent defenses will be
more double coverage's than zones.
But eventually I plan to
cover all possible defenses:
M2M-Zone-Zone/Man mix-Zone
Blitzes etc.
In 3/4 and 4/3 formations.
For awhile I will stick
with around 5 to 10 plays per
game plan (excluding special
teams plays).
